You want Google to love your website, so it consistently ranks at the top of search results. However, this just isn’t going to happen unless Google is aware of your website pages. Plus, if Google doesn’t know your website exists, taking the time to make sure your website is relevant to certain SEO keywords and that your pages have enough authority is almost pointless. To put it simply, your priorities should be as follows:
- Make sure your pages can be found
- Optimize your pages
To check if your pages are getting noticed by Google, type “site:” immediately followed by your URL into the search bar. After you do this, a list of all the pages under your domain will show up. If you’re not sure if a specific page is being recognized, go ahead and type it directly into the search bar.
If one of your pages isn’t being found yet, you can do something about it! To start, go to the Google search console under Webmaster tools, type in the URL, and submit a request. Within minutes, your page should start being recognized by Google. Remember, you can do this as many times as you want. However, you might need to do this if Google already successfully discovers your pages or if you have an .xml sitemap.
After Google is finding your new pages, you’ll be in a good spot to work on gaining authority and targeting relevant SEO keywords so that you get the rankings you’ve been after. Contact us if you have any questions!
